The Bulk File Unzip web part allows SharePoint users to unzip (that is, unpack) multiple archives and save extracted files to a document library. You can use this web part to unzip multiple archives at the same time in SharePoint 2013, 2016 and 2019 (SE). Bulk File Unzip allows you to keep the structure of the original zipped folder: all the files and folders will be unzipped with the same structure as they had when zipped. The web part also supports the standard option of overwriting existing files.
The expected outage time is from two minutes to several hours, depending on your hardware and the number of SharePoint sites. However, we recommend all Virto users upgrade or install the web part on a weekend.
Before you begin, ensure you have access to the server. Your account must have the appropriate administrative privileges to install applications.
The Virto Bulk File Unzip setup program provides links to the various installation components for the calendar.
To access the Virto Bulk File Unzip setup program, download Virto.SharePoint.FileUnzip.X.X.zip and unzip it. Run the extracted Setup.exe file.
The setup wizard window will appear.
The Virto Bulk File Unzip wizard will perform a system check before the installation. All the system checks must be completed successfully to proceed with the installation. After the checks have been completed, click “Next.”
Check the box, “I accept the terms in the License Agreement,” and click “Next.”
Select the web application(s) where you want to install the product.
You must be logged in to the SharePoint server with a Site Collection Administrator account to activate Bulk File Unzip automatically.
Click “Next.” Click “Close” to complete the installation.
Book a free 15-minute meeting with our technical team if you have any questions regarding setup, features, or pricing.
Online activation requires an internet connection. To start the registration, enter the serial number in the form field, then click “Activate Online.” An activation code is not required for online activation.
If you already use Bulk File Unzip by Virto and need to upgrade it to the latest version, download the .zip file from http://www.virtosoftware.com. Unzip the file and run setup.exe.
In step 3, check the box “Upgrade” and click “Next.”
You can define the unzip settings for the current document library or the SharePoint site. To define unzip settings for the site, go to “Site Actions –> Site Settings.”
Click “Virto Unzip Settings” in the site administration block.
Define the unzip options.
If unzip options are not defined for the whole site, all the checkboxes will be unchecked by default.
Manual activation does not require an internet connection. To activate your license from the “Unlocked” status (see the previous section) or from the “Trial” status, enter your serial number and activation code (if you’re continuing an activation from unlocked status, just enter the activation code). Click “Activate offline.”
The “Unlocked” status is an intermediate stage between the “Trial” status and the activated license. The “Unlocked” status appears when you’ve done activation, the key is correct, but it hasn’t reached our server, so the activation was not confirmed. Now you have a week or two to complete the activation. So how can you do it? There are three ways:
Get the activation code yourself at https://www.virtosoftware.com/offline-activation/ and do offline activation (the preferred option, which will be described in this section)
Talk to your administrators.
Contact Virto support with the key and machine code, then perform offline activation (if nothing else worked).
Generate an offline activation code on the following page: https://www.virtosoftware.com/offline-activation
If the license is successfully activated, you will see its new status (“Activated”).
The licenses will stay activated in the case of changing hardware (HDD, RAM, video card, etc.) because they are related to the SharePoint ID stored in the database.
To uninstall the component, follow these steps:
Double-click the Setup.exe file extracted from the downloaded Virto.SharePoint.FileUnzip.X.X.zip file.
The program will perform the system checks again. Once that has been completed, the program will prompt you to repair or remove the solution. Select “Remove” and click “Next.”
Open the SharePoint site and go to the document library where archives are uploaded. The unpack options will only be available to users with the rights to create files.
Choose the archive to unpack and click the “Unpack archive(s)” button on the ribbon.
The unpack options page will appear. Check the boxes depending on the settings you want to apply:
Overwrite existing files (this option allows you to overwrite existing files with the extracted files)
Delete the archive file after successful extraction (the archive will be deleted after unpacking – this helps to save more space on the disk)
Keep the original files’ created/modified time (when files are extracted, the creation time is the time of unpacking, but you can use this checkbox to keep the files’ original created/modified time)
Enter the password if required (if a password has been set for unpacking files in this document library or site, enter the password to unpack it; if a password is not required, leave this field empty)
Click “Extract” to complete the action. If the unpacking is successful, you will see a confirmation message.
Click “Back to Document Library” to return to the site.
If something goes wrong, you will see the exception message. The archive may be partially unpacked.
If the document library requires files to be checked out, the unpack action will check files in and out.
Bulk File Unzip by Virto supports the unpacking of multiple archives in SharePoint. Select archives in the library and use the “Unpack archive(s)” button on the ribbon.
Define settings in the new window.
Extracted files and folders will appear in the document library.
Bulk File Unzip will keep the original folder structure after unpacking.
