Product: Virto AD User & Password Manager
Updated: 2026-10-20

## System requirements

| Version | Server |
|---|---|
| SharePoint Server 2016 | Microsoft SharePoint Server 2016 |
| SharePoint Server 2019 | Microsoft SharePoint Server 2019 |
| SharePoint Server Subscription Edition | Microsoft SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 |

**Browsers:** Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox.

## What is in the package

Download the package for your SharePoint version from the [product page](https://docs.virtosoftware.com/docs/virto-user-and-password-manager/index.md). The package for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition contains two folders:

- **Virto.SharePoint.ADUsers.Setup**: the setup program (**SetupSE.exe** for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, **Setup.exe**), **Deploy.ps1**, the solution **Virto.SharePoint.ADUsers.wsp**, the modern web part package **virto-user-manager.sppkg**, and the **ReadMe** and **VersionHistory** files.
- **Virto.WebLicenseManager**: Virto License Manager, installed or updated together with the product. See [Installing and updating the License Manager](https://docs.virtosoftware.com/docs/virto-license-manager/installing-and-updating-the-license-manager/index.md).

## Installing

1. Unzip the package and run the setup program as a farm administrator (right-click it and select **Run as administrator**).
2. Follow the wizard: system check, [license agreement](/docs/virtosoftware-trust-security-center/eula-on-premises/), web applications and site collections, installation.
3. For modern pages: make sure **virto-user-manager.sppkg** is deployed in **Apps for SharePoint** of the App Catalog, then add the app **Virto User Manager** to the site collection (**Site contents** → **New** → **App**).

Instead of the setup program, you can run **Deploy.ps1** in the SharePoint Management Shell as a farm administrator: dot-source it and call `Install-WebPart` with the path to the .wsp file and the web application URL. If the solution is already installed, the script updates it.

The trial period starts when the product is installed. To activate a license, see [Product Activation](https://docs.virtosoftware.com/docs/virto-license-manager/product-activation/index.md).

Next, add the web parts to your pages: [Adding a web part to a classic page](https://docs.virtosoftware.com/docs/virto-user-and-password-manager/settings/how-to-configure-a-web-part/index.md) or [Adding a web part to a modern page](https://docs.virtosoftware.com/docs/virto-user-and-password-manager/settings/installing-a-web-part-in-sharepoint-modern-experience/index.md).

## Updating and removing

To update the product, run the setup program of the new version and choose **Upgrade**, or run **Deploy.ps1** from the new package.

To remove the product, run the setup program and choose **Remove**.
