External Calendars

Virto Shared Calendar supports adding iCalendar feeds to your calendar view.

An iCalendar feed is a universal format compatible with most calendar apps, making it easy to share and combine events from different sources. You can connect any number of .ics calendars — holidays, weather, sports schedules, or even your Outlook or Google Calendar via an .ics link — and view them together with your team’s shared calendar.

Add an external calendar#

1. Click the calendar name to open its settings and go to the External calendars tab. Only calendar owners can change the settings.
2. Click Add ICal source.
3. Give the source a name and a color, and paste its link into the field that reads type url here.
4. Choose whether its events are shown or hidden when the calendar opens, and save.

What to know about external calendars:

• Use a link that starts with https:// and is reachable from the internet. If a site gives you a webcal:// link, replace webcal:// with https://.
• Events from an external calendar are read-only and appear in the source’s color, with their own entry in the calendar legend.
• They do not count toward the 15 entries of the free plan.
• The calendar reads the feed again at most every 30 minutes, so a change in the source can take up to half an hour to appear.

Public holiday calendars by country#

Google publishes a public holiday calendar for each country as an .ics feed. Use this link and replace COUNTRY with the code from the table below:

For example, the public holidays of Germany:

Good to know about these feeds:

• .official means public holidays only. Without .official in the link, the feed also brings observances such as Valentine’s Day or the start of daylight saving time.
• Regional holidays are marked. A holiday kept only in some states, provinces or cantons has “(regional holiday)” in its name. In countries such as Germany, Switzerland or Canada many holidays are regional, so check which ones apply to your office.
• Holiday names in another language. Replace en at the start of the code with a language code: de.german.official gives the holidays of Germany with German names, fr.french.official the holidays of France in French.
• Several countries. Add one source per country, each in its own color.

Google publishes these feeds and keeps them up to date, not VirtoSoftware. Before you rely on a date for payroll or a contract, check it with the official source of the country.
