# Creating a Chart

Virto Charts App builds a complete dashboard of visual charts from the data you choose in a single click. This page shows how to create a dashboard and set up its charts. Each chart type is described in [Chart types](https://docs.virtosoftware.com/docs/virto-charts/chart-types/index.md).

## Open the chart settings

Open the chart settings with the **gear** icon in the top right-hand corner of the app.

Click **New** to create a chart.

## Set up the dashboard

Specify the dashboard name. Later you will switch between dashboards in this dropdown:

Select the **Default** checkbox to show the new dashboard first on the screen. Choose the site from the site collection and pick the source SharePoint list.

## Choose the chart type

Once you pick a source list, a dropdown with the available chart types appears. Choose the type you'd like to use and specify the chart title.

Five chart types are available:

- Status
- Members
- Completion
- Burndown by tasks
- Lead time

Define the field to display for the chosen chart type. For example, for a Status chart you can choose **Priority**, **Task Status**, **Labels**, **Project** or **Goal**. Some chart types need additional fields:

1. **User field** — for the Members chart type.
2. **Due date field** — for the Completion chart type.

Remember to save the chart.
